What is Application Use Monitoring Software?
Application use monitoring software monitors how software is used on computers.
It is a program that indicates the following:
• Which applications were used,
• At what time the application was used,
• For how long the application was in use,
• On which computer the application was used,
• The login name of the user/employee using the computer.
Why to monitor the use of applications at workplace?
For the managers monitoring the use of applications shows the frequency that applications are used. The frequency of their use could be a direct indication of the necessity of using them. Applications that are infrequently used or not all could then be identified and considered for possible removal from the system. Then again, initiatives could be taken to make more use of neglected applications.
Other questions might arise concerning the use of applications in the workplace. The most obvious question is, “Is the use of this application related to work?” Other questions are, “By whose initiative was the application downloaded and installed on a company computer? Was the application installed according to a directive of the management, or did the employee download it for his own reasons? What if the application was attached to another program or website and automatically installed itself on the computer, unnoticed by the user?” Application use monitoring software provides answers to these and other pertinent questions.
