Activity Monitoring Software: Which employees’ activities can you monitor on corporate computers?
During working hours employees perform various activities on company’s computers. How to know which activities exactly employees perform? There is plenty of computer activity monitoring software on the market that can answer this question.
At first, what computer activities can you monitor (record):
– Visiting web-sites
– Using chats
– Writing emails
– Using software
– Using documents
– Logging in and logging out
Computer activity monitoring software can capture various information about every activity, like:
– System login name of the employee: who has been performing the activity?
– Computer name or IP address: on which computer the activity was performed?
– Time of the activity: when and for how long?
– And type of the activity (eg. Visiting Facebook).
Computer activity monitoring software can also show if the activity was personal or work related. For example, if visited web-sites are Facebook, Twitter, other social networks, news, games, or online shopping then monitoring software marks them as Personal Internet Use. Or if visited web-site is the company’s own web-site then this is a Work Related Activity.
Most of the software on the market also offers capturing emails and chats content, as well as keystrokes recording. We do not consider such functionality as monitoring. For more information refer here: What is Spyware or Spying Software.
